Karyn’s Weak Verb Chart

These PDF format charts are a distillation of the weak verb grammar that I teach, so there are some things that won’t make sense if you were not in my class. Eventually I will write a guide to using these pages. Still, if you have been through a first year Biblical Hebrew course, you should be able to figure out most of it. You may post a link to these resources, but please do not re-post the actual documents. I want to keep the most up to date versions here.
Karyn’s First Semester Biblical Hebrew Review Guide
This Review Guide distills the details of first semester Biblical Hebrew into 16 pages of one-liners and charts.

Karyn’s Favorite BH Teaching Aids
Check this post I wrote about some of my favorite teaching aids for Biblical Hebrew.
Cantillation Marks Teaching Tools
The British Foreign Bible Society has a terrific article, “The Masoretes and the Punctuation of Biblical Hebrew” which explains the cantillation marks and how they can be used to help identify syntax.
Naama Zahavi-Ely, who teaches at William & Mary, has a very helpful handout on cantillation marks, “Using cantillation marks to break Biblical verses into units for teaching purposes” (from her presentation at SBL).

Visual Resources
- Post describing some visual learning resources.
- Chris Heard’s preposition chart in various formats (for download)
Using Hebrew on a Computer
- SBL Hebrew Font (Unicode): A free font for download. This is one of the most beautiful and readable Hebrew fonts available. It also includes cantillation! Be sure to download the keyboard drivers and manual too. The drivers are not necessary (the Mac OS X system has Hebrew support built in), but they are another option that Chris Heard demonstrates in the screencasts below.
- Chris Heard’s screencasts about typing Hebrew on a computer: Part One and Part Two
- Mellel: Best wordprocessor for Hebrew/English (or for that matter, Greek). One of my essential digital tools (for my description of Mellel and other digital tools I use, go here).
